1. El Peñol Rock
Why is Guatapé famous? First reason: La Piedra del Peñol (aka El Peñon de Guatapé). And why is Guatapé Rock famous? This massive rock formation is a monolith of 220 meters and 740 steps to the top. A monolith is a special type of rock because regardless of their enormous size it consists of a single stone. Guatapé Rock offers breathtaking panoramic views. It used to be a place for adoration for local indigenous people in pre hispanic times. It was first climbed in 1954 by Luis Eduardo Villegas, Ramón Díaz and Pedro Nel Ramírez who challenged each other to do so. Thanks to this folks we are able to hike the steps towards the top today and taste some delicious fruits and local sweets and the famous beer with mango and maracuyá!

2. Guatape Town and It's Zocalos.
What is Guatapé known for? Guatapé is known for being one of the most colorful towns in the world. Its streets are adorned by traditional picturesque houses, each with a different “Zocalo” that represents the characteristics of the family who owns it, (their profession, their business, or something they take pride on). Strolling through the streets and observing the different Zocalos, which are basically works of art is the best way to get to know Guatapé and the culture of its people.

3. Picnic by the Guatapé River.
The area that surrounds Guatapé Town in Colombia, has over 7 rivers and more than 50 brooks. Clean and clear waters that are born at the top of the Andean Mountains and spread through the territotry. Spending a Sunday morning by the river with friends and family is a very Colombian thing to do.
