5 things to do in Medellin in 2024

If you are visiting Colombia, Medellin is a must. Personally, it is one of my favorite cities in Colombia. Medellin´s streets are packed with trees and plants. There is green everywhere you look which gives the city a very tranquil and easy vibe. The weather is just perfect. Not too cold, not too hot, just the perfect climate for shorts, skirts, summer dresses and sandals and a sweater for the fresh night. The city is full of small cafes, bakeries and restaurants with food from all over the world full of both local and foreign people.

1. Manila, neighbourhood in El Poblado

Manila used to be a large estate. It belonged to a Catholic Seminary and later to a family, who lived there until the starting of the construction of the neighborhood, at the beginning of the 20th century. Now, Manila is a small street neighborhood full of hostels, hotels, spas, restaurants, small workshops, art galleries, cafes, in short, a huge and diverse world making it perfect to stroll around its street enjoying all it has to offer. Do stop for a beer and chicharron at El Social.

2. Comuna 13

This part of the city struggled through a lot of the years of violence due to drug trafficking. After a military operation,  the government set out to improve the life of the community by constructing electric escalators for access, community centers and more. Soon the Comuna 13 became what we can enjoy today, a picturesque neighborhood full of street art and murals, art galleries, local culture, and local food.

3. Arvi Park

The Arví Park is an open public park with 1,761 hectares of forest, belonging to the Nare River Reserve. Here you can go hiking, birdwatching, have a picnic and enjoy the natural site in general. 

4. Visit Guatapé, just a short ride from Medellin.

We recommend taking a short trip to Guatapé, a colorful town just a few hours away from Medellin. Guatapé offers plenty of natural and outdoor experiences like hiking through native forests to see some of the 400 bird species registered in the area, swimming in crystal water rivers, boat rides along the lake and coffee tours.
